Baseball Game Preview: Allegan Tigers vs. Hopkins Vikings

The Allegan Tigers will venture away from home to challenge the Hopkins Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Allegan's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top against Comstock by a score of 4-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Hopkins ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over Fruitport. The victory was familiar territory for the Vikings, who have now won three contests in a row.

Kellen Ford was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

In other batting news, Cody Benting was excellent, going 2-for-5 with one triple and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Smigiel, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Hopkins pushed their record up to 27-7 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Allegan, their record now sits at 8-12.
