Softball Recap: Lakota Triumphs

Lakota proved they can win big on Monday (they won by ten) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Van Buren Black Knights, sneaking past 4-3. While the Raiders didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Emma Jurovcik spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Chevelle Rubel, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Sophia Bomer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Lakota hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.

Lakota has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Van Buren, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakota will head out to challenge Arcadia at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Van Buren, they will venture away from home to square off against Ada at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Black Knights surely won't give up without a fight.
