Basketball Recap: Newport Takes a Loss

After flying high against Westside Christian back in December of 2024, Newport came back down to earth. The Newport Cubs took a 52-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cottage Grove Lions on Tuesday. If the Cubs were looking for revenge after losing 51-43 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Newport has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Cottage Grove, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newport will host Estacada at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Cottage Grove, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Marist at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
