Preview: Calvary Christian Spartans vs. Dominion Academy Sabers
Calvary Christian is 10-0 against Dominion Academy since February of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Calvary Christian Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Dominion Academy Sabers at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Calvary Christian comes in on four and Dominion Academy on five.
Calvary Christian scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They managed a 48-42 victory over Upper Scioto Valley.
Meanwhile, Dominion Academy stacked a ninth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 56-18 win over East Dayton Christian at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 46-8.
Dominion Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tessa Merkel led the charge by scoring ten points along with four steals. Merkel has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Elizabeth Zink was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Calvary Christian's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Dominion Academy, their win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2.
Calvary Christian didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Dominion Academy in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 40-34 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Calvary Christian since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
