Parkland waltzed into their match on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Hanks Knights 11-4. The Matadors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by seven runs or more this season.
Samantha Martinez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Stephanie Flores was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Olympia Castillo, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Parkland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 12-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Parkland's win bumped their record up to 17-12. As for Hanks, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-11-1.
Coincidentally, Parkland and Hanks will both be playing Del Valle the next time they take the field. The Matadors will host the Conquistadores at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Knights will head out to face them at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
