The Powhatan Indians will venture away from home to face off against the Clover Hill Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Friday, Powhatan got the win against L.C. Bird by a conclusive 16-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Indians.
Meanwhile, Clover Hill entered their tilt with L.C. Bird on Thursday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Skyhawks 20-2. The Cavaliers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Brianna Miller was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cayla Wright was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alejandra Wittman, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Clover Hill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as L.C. Bird only posted an OBP of .478.
Clover Hill pushed their record up to 12-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Powhatan, their record is now 10-7.
Powhatan couldn't quite get it done against Clover Hill in their previous meeting back in April as they fell 7-2. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
