South Pittsburg scored first but ultimately less than Polk County in their game on Thursday. They fell just short of the Polk County Wildcats by a score of 5-4. The Pirates' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Bailey Fults spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Alex Phillips made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Tanner Blevins also deserves some recognition as he hit his first doubles of the season.

South Pittsburg's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Polk County, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-4.

South Pittsburg didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 7-1 loss against Chattanooga Christian on the 14th. As for Polk County, they have also already played their next contest, a 9-3 defeat against Sweetwater on the 17th.
