Baseball Recap: Washington Takes a Loss

Washington had lost six straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 6-10 to make it seven. They fell just short of the La Joya Community Fighting Lobos by a score of 10-8. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Fighting Lobos this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-1 on Tuesday.

Ta'Lon Heron was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run. Rylan Evans was another key player, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with three runs.

As for La Joya Community, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games.

On La Joya Community's side, the team relied heavily on Samuel Acuna, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. What's more, Acuna posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Chris Mata, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Washington will head out to challenge Fairfax at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for La Joya Community, they will venture away from home to face off against Maryvale at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
