Basketball Recap: Bertie Takes a Loss

After flying high against Northeast Academy For Aerospace and Advanced Tech last Friday, Bertie came back down to earth. The Bertie Falcons fell to the Tarboro Vikings 79-75. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (67), the Falcons still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Bertie lost on Saturday, don't look at Zymiere Dempsey. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 30 points and 14 rebounds. Dempsey has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 20 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tayvien Ward, who posted 20 points and six boards.

Bertie's defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Tarboro, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bertie will face off against Perquimans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bertie knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Perquimans likes a good challenge. As for Tarboro, they will challenge SouthWest Edgecombe at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
