Basketball Recap: Welsh Comes Up Short

After flying high against Johnson Bayou last Thursday, Welsh came back down to earth. The Welsh Greyhounds fell just short of the Fairview Panthers by a score of 74-72 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Greyhounds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 296th, while the Panthers are ranked 51st).

Welsh's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Fairview, they pushed their record up to 28-12 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Welsh will square off against Mamou at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Welsh's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests. As for Fairview, they will challenge Hicks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fairview knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 18 matchups -- so hopefully Hicks likes a good challenge.
