Softball Recap: Greenfield Comes Up Short

Greenfield dropped their record down to 11-5 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Hampshire Regional Raiders by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Green Wave have suffered against the Raiders since June 25, 2021.

MacKenzie Paulin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Greenfield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anna Bucala, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one double.

As for Hampshire Regional, they pushed their record up to 17-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games.

On Hampshire Regional's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Ryanne Dubay1 gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Raegan Dubay20, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Teagan Charles, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Coming up, Greenfield will challenge Westfield at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Green Wave 2.3, the Bombers 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Hampshire Regional does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
