Baseball Recap: Chilton County Sets Scoring Season-High Against Foley

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chilton County). They were the clear victors by a 19-9 margin over the Foley Lions on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Tigers needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Ethan Benson made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only five hits, the fewest he's had since March 4th. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted over his last eight games.

In other batting news, Stephen Cromer was incredible, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Chilton County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 10-12 when he doesn't). Josh Parker was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Chilton County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Chilton County has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. Foley has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-10 record this season.

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Chilton County Tigers duke it out with Benjamin Russell Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games Benjamin Russell has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Foley, they have already played their next game, a 13-1 win against Davidson on the 28th.
