Basketball Recap: Tamarion Marshall Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Mt. Olive

East Alton-Wood River's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Mt. Olive Wildcats by a score of 55-42. The Oilers haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

East Alton-Wood River's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tamarion Marshall, who went 6-for-13 to rack up 17 points along with five assists and three steals. The game was Marshall's third in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Bruce, who went 7-for-13 on his way to 14 points and eight rebounds.

Marshall wasn't the only one working in the assist department: East Alton-Wood River was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mt. Olive only posted seven assists.

When it comes to explaining why Mt. Olive lost, don't look at David Schoen. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Matthew Bywater, who posted six points and seven rebounds.

East Alton-Wood River's record is now 3-25. As for Mt. Olive, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-19 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Alton-Wood River will take on Salem at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. East Alton-Wood River is facing Salem at the right time seeing as Salem is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Mt. Olive, they will welcome Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lutheran has three straight victories, Mt. Olive has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
