Baseball Recap: North County Victorious

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but North County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Fredericktown Black Cats, sneaking past 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Raiders have posted since May 10, 2024.

Will Weible made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because North County is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-5 otherwise. Weible was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he brought in this season.

In other batting news, Kendrick Simon was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Maddox Basler was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

North County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

North County's win bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Fredericktown, they moved to 8-3 with that defeat, which also ended their eight-game winning streak.

Coming up, North County will challenge Ste. Genevieve at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Dragons will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Raiders surely won't give up without a fight. As for Fredericktown, they will square off against Central at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
