Recap: Calvary Christian Warriors vs. Gibbs Gladiators

After a string of five wins, the Calvary Christian Warriors's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell to Gibbs 57-52. While losing is never fun, Calvary Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 231st, while Gibbs is ranked 41st).

Calvary Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ace Taylor, who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds and six assists, and Ethan Sabec who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Madden Geiger was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds.

Leading Gibbs to victory were Mathis Roberts and Jacob Daniels. Roberts scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Daniels scored 24 points along with five steals. That's the first time this season that Roberts pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Bobby Crawford, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.

Calvary Christian's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Gibbs, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-3.

Calvary Christian will square off against Palmetto at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. Gibbs on the road again on Saturday and play against Tampa Catholic at 8:30 p.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Tampa Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Friday.
