On Monday, Hialeah narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Columbia 6-5.
Hialeah gave Jude Fernandez the start and clearly made the right call: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Yaniel Tabares picked up the save, pitching two innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Yanzel Medina, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Coral Reef came up short against Cocoa Beach on Monday and fell 7-3.
William Vega and Raul Garcia did some serious damage despite the final result: Vega went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Garcia got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.
Coral Reef's loss dropped their record down to 3-14-1. As for Hialeah, their record is now 8-5.
Coral Reef's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hialeah has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. It's a different story for Coral Reef, though, as they've only averaged .347. Will they be able to contain Hialeah's hitters?
Hialeah might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Coral Reef in their previous meeting back in February of 2025. Can the Thoroughbreads avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
