Softball Recap: Lynn Bears vs. Hackleburg Panthers
Lynn had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 17-13-2 to make it five. They lost 14-1 to the Hackleburg Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Bears have suffered since March 26th.
As for Hackleburg, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 17 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 32-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.
For Hackleburg's part, Laine Steward made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Steward has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Brooklyn Butler was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, eight RBI, and two runs. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Saylor Cooper, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Lynn wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 5-4 victory against Vina on the 28th. Hopefully Hackleburg paid attention to the Bears' contest: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Bears on Tuesday.
