Soccer Game Preview: Andrew vs. Stagg

Andrew is 1-8-1 against Stagg since September of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Thunderbolts will look to defend their home pitch against the Chargers at 6:15 p.m. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Andrew is likely headed into the matchup with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Homewood-Flossmoor on Tuesday. The Thunderbolts came up short against the Vikings, falling 4-1.

Meanwhile, Stagg faced Lockport in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. While the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was the Porters who were credited with the victory. Lockport got it done in the shootout by posting four goals to Stagg's two.

Andrew's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7-2. As for Stagg, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 10-2-2.

Andrew beat Stagg by a goal in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 2-1. Will the Thunderbolts repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
