Softball Recap: Washington Union Comes Up Short

Washington Union dropped their record down to 5-10 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 11-3 to the Golden Valley Cougars. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 15-1 to the Cougars when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Golden Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games.

For Golden Valley's part, they got a great performance from Chelsea Lopez as she pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits.

At the plate, Golden Valley let Allie Minor and Taylor Lopez run wild. Minor went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Lopez went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Lopez has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Alanni Cienfuegos, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Washington Union wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 11-0 defeat against Rio Linda on the 15th. As for Golden Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-0 loss against Justin Garza on the 15th.
