Softball Recap: Clearwater Central Catholic Wins Going Away Against Hollins

Clearwater Central Catholic made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Hollins, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Marauders blew past the Royals 11-1 on Thursday. Considering the Marauders have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Madison Whelan spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alexis Rosado and Bethanny Ortiz did most of the damage at the plate: Rosado scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Ortiz scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, Ortiz posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March. Emma Carollo was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Clearwater Central Catholic pushed their record up to 7-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Hollins, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.

Looking ahead, Clearwater Central Catholic will head out on the road to challenge Dunedin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hollins, they will be playing at home against Pinellas Park at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
