On Saturday North Central's undefeated season almost came to an end. They skirted past the Legion Collegiate Academy Lancers 3-1. This was payback for the Knights, who suffered a 16-0 loss the last time these two teams met.
Mackenzie Melton made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Melton wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Josie Jackson, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
North Central's record now sits at 8-0. As for Legion Collegiate Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. North Central will head out to challenge Dreher at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Legion Collegiate Academy, they are headed away from home for the first time to face off against Providence Day at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
