Basketball Recap: Atherton Victorious

It was a Battle of the Birds when Atherton challenged Shawnee on Thursday. The Atherton Ravens escaped with a win against the Shawnee Golden Eagles by the margin of a single free throw, 62-61. Given the Ravens' advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 217th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

The victory made it two in a row for Atherton and bumps their season record up to 11-9. As for Shawnee, their loss was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Atherton will face off against Waggener at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Shawnee, they and W.E.B. DuBois Academy will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played.
