Softball Recap: Denison Takes a Loss

Denison fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Melissa on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They came up short against the Cardinals, falling 8-2. The Yellow Jackets have struggled against the Cardinals recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Camden Mack spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Denison saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Tilley, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Denison's defeat dropped their record down to 16-13. As for Melissa, the victory was the 19th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 24-2.

Denison and Melissa should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Yellow Jackets (ranked 250th) will meet Greenville (ranked 979th) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Melissa will face off against Lovejoy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (3 vs. 58). The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cardinals 2, the Leopards 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
