Softball Game Preview: Columbus Falcons vs. Lafayette Commodores

For the second straight game, Columbus will face off against Lafayette. The Falcons will challenge the Commodores at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Columbus has given up an average of 16.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Columbus fell victim to Lafayette and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 17-0 to the Commodores. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Falcons' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

For Lafayette's part, Caroline Kelley was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Kelley has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Ava May, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

Lafayette always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .741. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Lafayette is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Columbus, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-17.
