Softball Recap: Nardin Academy Takes a Loss

Nardin Academy had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-6 to make it four. They fell 5-0 to the Bishop Kearney Kings. The game marked the first time this season in which the Gators were not able to get on the board.

Lidia Foglia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

As for Bishop Kearney, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 4-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 12.0 runs this season.

On Bishop Kearney's side, Carmella Phelan was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. With that strong performance, Phelan is now averaging an impressive 5.8 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Coral Enscoe was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Claire Spears was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nardin Academy will welcome Mount Mercy Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Gators' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Magic have averaged an impressive 11.2 runs per game this season. As for Bishop Kearney, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northstar Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
