Basketball Recap: Dimond Takes Down Ranked West Anchorage

On Friday, Dimond faced West Anchorage in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Dimond Lynx managed a 51-47 win over the West Anchorage Eagles. The Lynx haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Evan Hamey was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds. What's more, she also posted a 54% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in January. Another player making a difference was Katie MacDonald, who posted six points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

Dimond smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive games.

West Anchorage's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Re'Zhanai Wyche, who earned nine points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Wyche has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sinai Harris, who scored eight points in addition to ten boards and three steals.

Dimond's win bumped their record up to 14-5. As for West Anchorage, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.

Dimond has already played their next match, a 74-16 victory against Eagle River on the 25th. As for West Anchorage, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 74-58 loss against Bartlett on the 24th.
