Football Recap: Calexico Skates Past Central with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calexico). They breezed past the Central Spartans to the tune of 34-6 on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won four in a row.

Calexico's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Giovanna Ortiz led the charge by throwing for 315 yards and five touchdowns. With that strong performance, Ortiz is now averaging an impressive 3.5 passing touchdowns per game. 141 of Ortiz's passing yards were hauled in by Arellana Garcia, who also brought in three receiving touchdowns.

Calexico's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Calexico will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Southwest EC at 7:30 p.m. on September 8. As for Central, they will square off against Shadow Hills at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
