Basketball Recap: Valley Center Takes a Loss

Valley Center played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 86-64 to the Maize Eagles. The Hornets haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Despite the loss, Valley Center still got an impressive performance from Colby J newton, who went 7-for-12 to rack up 22 points. That's the most points J newton has posted since back in January of 2024. Ray J Logan was another key player, putting up ten points.

Maize's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brayden Myovela, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Myovela is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Alan Hanna, who went 9-for-13 on his way to 20 points in addition to five assists and three blocks.

Valley Center's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Maize, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

Valley Center has already played their next game, a 69-64 loss against Maize South on the 18th. As for Maize, they will square off against Haysville Campus at 7:00 p.m. on February 21st.
