Football Recap: Permian's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Permian waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Cajon Cowboys by a score of 36-25. The score was all tied up 19-19 at the break, but the Panthers were the (much) better team in the second half.

Permian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jakob Garcia, who threw for 259 yards and two TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes. That's the most passing yards Garcia has posted since back in September of 2024. Gavin Black was in the mix too, providing Permian with two touchdowns.

Permian didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Cajon to a completion percentage of just 45.8%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Natanael Cardoza and Noel Washington, who each logged two passes deflected. Given Garcia's standout performance, it's clear Cajon's secondary just wasn't on the same level.

Cajon's loss came despite strong showings from Landon White and Marcus Washington. White picked up 143 receiving yards and a pair of scores, while Washington threw for 201 yards and three TDs. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 79 yards.

Permian's record is now 4-1. As for Cajon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3.

Coming up, after each having a week off, Permian and Odessa will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:30 p.m. on the 10th. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 897 yards in their previous games. As for Cajon, they have already played their next game, a 34-7 win against Yucaipa on the 2nd.
