Basketball Recap: Independence Bulldogs vs. Burlington Wildcats
Independence was the 49-30 winner over Burlington when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Independence Bulldogs took a 45-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Burlington Wildcats on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while the Wildcats are ranked 109th).
Leading Burlington to victory were Alexa Splechter and Mac Medlock. Splechter posted 14 points along with seven assists and five steals, while Medlock dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Medlock has scored at least a third of Burlington's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Birk, who scored four points and three steals.
Independence's loss dropped their record down to 2-5-2. As for Burlington, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2.
Independence didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 51-36 win against Paola on the 24th. Burlington has also already played their next contest, a 49-45 defeat against Labette County on the 24th.
