Preview: Saraland Spartans vs. Pike Road Patriots
The Saraland Spartans are on the road again on Friday and play against the Pike Road Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on December 1st. One thing working in Saraland's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.
With a playoff game on the line, Saraland rose to the challenge on Friday. They came out on top against the Patriots by a score of 31-21. Saraland's win was all the more impressive since Hillcrest was averaging only 8.92 points allowed on the season.
Santae McWilliams Jr. was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown, and also caught a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Williams, who picked up 92 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Pike Road came tearing into Friday's matchup with 11 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They skirted past Benjamin Russell 31-28. 31 seems to be a good number for Pike Road as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Pike Road's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mike Jones led the charge by rushing for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Jordan King, who picked up 84 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Pike Road's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB eight times. The heavy lifting was done by Mac Ceman and Braylon Outlaw who racked up five sacks between them.
The wins kept both teams' perfect 13-0 season records intact.
