Softball Recap: Chesapeake Triumphs

The third road match was the charm for Chesapeake, as they earned their first away win of the season. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 victory over the Green Bobcats on Wednesday. With that win, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Haylee Lafon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaydence Easthom, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Wagner, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

The victory got Chesapeake back to even at 2-2. As for Green, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Looking ahead, Chesapeake will challenge Portsmouth at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Green, they have already played their next contest, a 16-0 loss against South Point on the 27th.
