Basketball Recap: Eastmark Snaps Six-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Eastmark had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 72-59 win over the Combs Coyotes on Wednesday. For the Firebirds, this counts as revenge for the 66-64 victory the Coyotes walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Leading Eastmark to victory were Kolby Hoyer and Dylan Gesner. Hoyer went 7 for 14 en route to 20 points and three steals, while Gesner posted 19 points and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Gesner a new career-high in assists (four). Justin Humphrey was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Eastmark was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Combs lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Quinmetris Cunningham, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. Cunningham is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jaimin Amador, who had 11 points and seven boards.

Eastmark's win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-8. As for Combs, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season.

Eastmark will face off against Poston Butte at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Eastmark has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Combs, they will venture away from home to face off against ALA - Gilbert North at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Combs is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.6 points per game this season.
