Basketball Recap: Hurley Takes a Loss

Hurley lost against River View on January 2nd and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Hurley Rebels were outmatched by the River View Raiders and fell 73-32. While losing is never fun, the Rebels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 352nd in Virginia, while the Raiders are ranked 86th in West Virginia).

River View was led to victory by Chasity Kennedy and Kaylee Blankenship. Kennedy dropped a double-double on 27 points and 17 boards, while Blankenship dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten assists. Blankenship is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaci Hatfield, who posted nine points along with eight rebounds and five steals.

Hurley has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for River View, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hurley will take on Tazewell at 6:15 p.m. on February 3rd. As for River View, they are taking a road trip to challenge Mount View at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. River View is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.5 points per game this season.
