Basketball Game Preview: Van Wert Cougars vs. Marion Local Flyers

The Van Wert Cougars just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Marion Local Flyers at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

On Friday, Van Wert came up short against Defiance and fell 49-37. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 358th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 123rd).

Meanwhile, Marion Local put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Parkway as Marion Local made off with a 44-23 win. The Flyers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 21 points or more this season.

Marion Local's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-0. As for Van Wert, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Van Wert couldn't quite finish off Marion Local in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 and fell 53-50. Can Van Wert avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
