Baseball Recap: Paul VI Drops Season-High Score on Hilton Head Island

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Paul VI). They put the hurt on the Hilton Head Island Seahawks with a sharp 14-1 victory on Saturday. The Panthers not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 30, 2024.

Landon McGinn looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Owen Peltier was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Peltier is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Ryan Bahr was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Paul VI was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

The win made it two in a row for Paul VI and bumps their season record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Hilton Head Island, they dropped their record down to 2-4 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Paul VI Panthers face off against Bishop Ireton Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hilton Head Island, they will welcome Bishop England at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hilton Head Island has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
