Softball Recap: Winnfield Victorious

While Winnfield didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-18-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Montgomery on Friday, sneaking past 4-3. The win continues a trend for Winnfield in their matchups with Montgomery: they've now won three in a row.

Kaylee Vercher spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Winnfield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kristen Phelps, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Karley Caskey also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Winnfield's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Montgomery, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winnfield will welcome Buckeye at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Montgomery, they will host Converse at 5:30 p.m. on March 2.
