Baseball Game Preview: Spring Lake Park Panthers vs. Coon Rapids Cardinals

Spring Lake Park hasn't had much luck against Coon Rapids recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Panthers will be playing at home against the Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

On Wednesday, Spring Lake Park came up short against Elk River and fell 8-5.

Spring Lake Park got a good showing from Tyler Wilkinson, who tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Wilkinson has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ethan Jacobs was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Colin Welch, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Coon Rapids was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 11-4 to Rogers. On the bright side, the four- run effort marked the Cardinals' highest-scoring contest to date.

Coon Rapids' defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Spring Lake Park, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
