Baseball Game Preview: Pershing County Mustangs vs. Silver Stage Nighthawks

For the second straight game, Pershing County will face off against Silver Stage. The Mustangs will face off against the Nighthawks at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Pershing County has four straight victories, Silver Stage has 11 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Pershing County's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Silver Stage 10-0. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Tyler Miller made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Pershing County is undefeated when Miller posts three or more RBI, but 6-16 otherwise.

In other batting news, Pershing County let Logan Hunt and Jacob Henderson run wild. Hunt went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Henderson went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Those three RBI gave Hunt a new career-high. Landon Fitzpatrick also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Pershing County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Pershing County pushed their record up to 9-16 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Silver Stage, their loss dropped their record down to 6-20.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pershing County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Silver Stage struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts.
