Baseball Game Preview: Sparta Trojans vs. Gainesville Bulldogs

The Sparta Trojans will head out to challenge the Gainesville Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sparta is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

Sparta will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Hurley on Tuesday. The Trojans blew past the Tigers 13-1. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Trent Eisman tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.

At the plate, Braylen Luttrull was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Phoenix Holt, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Sparta kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Gainesville came up short against Mountain Grove on Tuesday and fell 6-2. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Sparta now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Gainesville, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.

Sparta skirted past Gainesville 3-1 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
