Basketball Recap: Hamilton Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Hamilton waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with a 54-43 win over the Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Cardinals' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Tornadoes are ranked 52nd).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hamilton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jadyn Climer, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. Climer has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last four times she's played. Dettriona Church was another key player, going 7 of 14 on her way to 18 points.

Hamilton has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 32.1% in those games and 0% outside of them. As for Abingdon/Avon, they moved to 12-3 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Hamilton and Carrollton will face off at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. As for Abingdon/Avon, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on ROWVA/Williamsfield at 7:15 p.m. on January 6, 2025.
