Soccer Game Preview: Downey vs. Pitman

Downey hasn't had much luck against Pitman recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Downey Knights will face off against the Pitman Pride at 6:00 p.m. Downey will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Downey's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They won by a goal and slipped past Turlock 1-0. Give the Knights' defense some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 1-1 at halftime, Pitman was not quite Gregori's equal in the second half on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty five goals in the game before, the Pride couldn't push the score so high this time.

Their goal came courtesy of Giovanni DeCasso, who's now up to seven this season.

Downey is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2-1 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 41 goals over those nine matchups. As for Pitman, their loss dropped their record down to 9-2-1.

Downey suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Pitman in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Downey avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
