Softball Recap: Wallkill Valley Comes Up Short

Wallkill Valley extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 4-5 in the process. They came up short against the Vernon Vikings, falling 11-1. The Rangers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Vikings from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for Vernon, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games.

For Vernon's part, they let Kaylie Orlando and Hailey Hanshaw run wild. Orlando went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Hanshaw went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave Orlando a new career-high. Elizabeth ?E? Peek was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Wallkill Valley will face off against Hopatcong at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. As for Vernon, they will challenge Jefferson Township at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Vikings have won three straight at home, while the Falcons won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
