Baseball Recap: New Smyrna Beach Comes Up Short

New Smyrna Beach and Springstead squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but New Smyrna Beach had to settle for second. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 9-3. The Barracudas were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 7-5.

James Kobylanski was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Landon McLain was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

New Smyrna Beach has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-11 record this season. As for Springstead, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-11 record this season.
