Softball Recap: Nelson County Takes a Loss

Nelson County extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-13 in the process. They lost 9-3 to the Gretna Hawks. Governors fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Hawks since on Thursday.

As for Gretna, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-9. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Gretna's part, Alyssa Keesee spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. Keesee has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sophia Brooks, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Marihlyn East, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Nelson County will face off against Stuarts Draft at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gretna, they will square off against Altavista at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
