Softball Game Preview: Westwood Warriors vs. Cibola Raiders

The Westwood Warriors will challenge the Cibola Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Westwood has given up an average of 10 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Westwood had been on a four-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Red Mountain put an end to it on Thursday. The Warriors lost 14-0 to the Mountain Lions. The Warriors' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cibola). Everything went their way against Maryvale on Thursday as they made off with a 24-1 win. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

Alessandra Martinez looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk).

On the hitting side, Stephanie Garcia was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Aliana Padilla, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Cibola kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive contests.

Cibola's victory bumped their record up to 9-13. As for Westwood, their loss dropped their record down to 11-11-1.
