The John Carroll Catholic Rams will head out to face off against the Martin County Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Tuesday, John Carroll Catholic made easy work of Dwyer and carried off an 8-2 victory.
Makayla Ortiz made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Briley Orton was incredible, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Samantha Rychter was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Martin County waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Titans with a sharp 13-1 win.
Like John Carroll Catholic, Martin County also got a great game from a two-way player: Brealyn White. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. White was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ariana Arroyo, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, one run, and one RBI. Emerson Newberry also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Martin County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Treasure Coast only managed two hits.
John Carroll Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Martin County, they pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. John Carroll Catholic has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. However, it's not like Martin County struggles in that department as they've averaged .494. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
