Baseball Recap: Blount Beats Hillcrest for Their Sixth Straight Win

Blount made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Hillcrest, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Leopards put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 17-3 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Leopards, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Christopher Wiggins Jr was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. He has become a key player for Blount: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Blount got a massive performance out of B Arso, who scored three runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. The Leopards are undefeated when Arso posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of John Armstead, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Blount always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .704. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win (which was Blount's sixth in a row) raised their record to 7-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Hillcrest, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Looking ahead, Blount will welcome Williamson at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Hillcrest, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Hillcrest Jaguars take on Monroe County Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on the 11th.
