Preview: Brookhaven Panthers vs. South Jones Braves
The Brookhaven Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the South Jones Braves at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Brookhaven knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully South Jones likes a good challenge.
Brookhaven has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 21 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 66-26 win over South Pike on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Brookhaven has managed all season.
It was another big night for Jaylen Haliburton, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten steals. He also posted eight assists for the first time this season. Jamarius Malone was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Meanwhile, South Jones pushed their score all the way to 57 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 62-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northeast Lauderdale. South Jones has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Brookhaven's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.8 points per game. As for South Jones, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Brookhaven couldn't quite finish off South Jones in their previous matchup back in February of 2021 and fell 47-44. Can Brookhaven avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
