Baseball Recap: Valley Find Success

Valley came out on top against Bernalillo on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run fifth inning. The Vikings walked away with a 13-8 victory over the Spartans. The win continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won three in a row.

Estevan Fernandez tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Anthony Chavez, who fired off two home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-4. Valley is undefeated when Chavez posts three or more RBI, but 9-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jayden Martinez, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Valley lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The victory got Valley back to even at 13-13. As for Bernalillo, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-14 record this season.

As of now, neither Valley nor Bernalillo have any future games scheduled.
